Folded Spiral Coprolite with Bone Inclusion

This layered coprolite was likely produced by a fish with a scroll type spiral valve. It has a soft, chalky composition. Currently, only a few species of fish are known to have a spiral valves as part of their digestive systems.  These include some sharks, rays, skates and lungfish. This particular coprolite has only one visible bone inclusions at its tip. It is one of the numerous specimens collected by Ron Ritchie in 1999 while surveying an area cleared to build an elementary school.
