Once thought to be fossil worms, coprolites of this type are known as Lumbricaria intestinum, which translated from Latin means "earthworm intestine." They are thought to have come from marine invertebrates called cephalopods which includes creatures like squid, octopuses, ammonites and cuttlefish.
